Thursday, March 24, Brunswick, Georgia. Sherry West was out for a walk with her
13-month-old baby in a stroller. She
decided to go out for a walk early so she could get exercise without the fear
of too much traffic. It was 9 A.M. and
West was walking home from the post office.
Suddenly she is confronted by two teenage boys who demand for
money. When West replies that she has no
money with her, the older teen shoots West in the leg. But that’s not all. He takes it even farther. 17-year-old De’Marquise Elkins shoots the
baby Antonio in the face, square between the eyes.
911 was called almost immediately after the shooting by many
neighbors and bystanders present at the scene.
All were horrified at what had happened, many were crying and emotionally
distressed.
Elkins was soon brought custody, as well as his 14-year-old
accomplice who cannot be named at the time.
Both were charged with first-degree murder.
One of the saddest parts to this story is that this wasn't the
first time West had lost a child to violence.
In 2008 in New Jersey, her 18-year-old son was stabbed to death. Being the second death that West has had to
endure, she said that she is terrified to have any more children.
When asked about the events, West was distraught and had
very strong answers. "I hate you
and I don't forgive you. You killed an
innocent human life," she said. "I hope you die for it."
This is a very disturbing story. It shows how violent today’s world has
become. And the crime was committed by
teenagers, one only 14-years-old!!! You
begin to wonder what has happened to the morality of our world. I mean seriously, who in the right mind could
shoot a BABY in the face pointblank? Our
society is becoming a heartless one, devoid of human compassion, this story
being a prime example. Now I understand
how West must feel. Her words are strong
but sincere, and I don’t blame her one bit for saying them. She has suffered two tragedies in her
lifetime. What more could God ask of
her? Comment on your thoughts and
opinions. And God bless young Antonio
Santiago West.

This is such a sad and disturbing story. My heart leaps out to Ms. West and I can"t really blame her for what she said. I agree that our world is become too violent, unsafe, and cruel these days. It's very sad to say so, but it is true. I wish that more people will stop and think about doing actions like these before they do them. We need to get the message out about the true nature of violence, neglect, and warfare. May God bless all of those who have been affected by violence and crime, and may He also bless all of the poor souls who have died by violence. And may He especially bless us all that we may fully realize the horrifying effect of this violence and may fight to overcome it.
